  1. I'm gone from here. Removing blocking and tweetdeck is the last straw. Enjoy the cesspool.
  2. So gratifying to see #cascadiarconf continue on and carry the values we established in the early days of the conf. Keep learning #rstats, everyone! @cascadiarconf/1693134439302459489
  3. Zack Ruff talking about an acoustic monitoring app, basically Shazam but for detecting spotted owls #CascadiaRConf #rstats

  7. Hey! I'm co-giving one of the keynotes for #CascadiaRConf! Hope to see you there! #rstats @cascadiarconf/1690067893428633600
  8. What I need is a widget that reminds me "Did you Branch?" every time I want to modify code. I always forget to do this.
  9. Goodbye to Harder House, where I spent many hours taking courses part of the PSU Systems Science Program: laderast.github.io/posts/2023-07-28-goodbye-to-harder-house/
  10. #rstats #shiny folks: is there a htmlwidgets/JS library that will subset a table using checkboxes? For example, a user could click a checkbox to add it to a subset. I think I could tackle this, but don't want to reinvent the wheel unless I have to.
  11. Haven't had much of a chance to use it before, but {reticulate} is damned amazing. It helps you to work #python style in #rstats, especially with nice functions like iterate(), which lets you iterate over python generators, much like purrr::map()
  12. TIL: if you use cli::cli_progress_update() in an function in purrr::map(), you need to pass the original cli progress id into your anonymous function. #rstats
  13. One thing that soldering instructions never have on their checklist: A hairclip to keep your bangs out of the way. Especially if you're rocking a pseudo 90's haircut with long bangs.
  14. Hey! I made an #rstats package. It's a tidy-style package for decoding the pheno data of the UK Biobank dataset. Helpful when you've got a 500K size table. laderast.github.io/xvhelper/
  15. Do you run a #datascience #meetup and you're fighting #burnout ? I'm writing a series about this and making your community more resilient and fun, starting with some self care: laderast.github.io/articles/2023-07-ds-burnout-part1/
  16. Happens to the best of us, folks. I managed to completely b0rk my quarto website rendering it from a different machine. TIL: use [renv] on any quarto site repo you need to re-render. Also: sometimes you need to re-install Xcode CLI tools. #rstats
  17. I'll be speaking at @cascadiarconf on Aug 19! Hope to see you there. @cascadiarconf/1677045250030968832
  18. TIL about the "Legion of Decency", which had a stranglehold over the film industry about content. Not a really boring DC comic series like I'd hoped.
  19. Re: setting boundaries. When people ask for things unsolicited that I don't have the energy or motivation for, I'm just going to reply: "Hi X, I'm a little too busy at the moment to be of any help." No apologies necessary.
  20. Coffee snobs, just stop slamming cold brew. You all sound like dicks when you make fun of a drink that a lot of people like. But maybe that's what you want, so dick away.
  21. Very cool. I will be a sub/co-speaker for one of the #CascadiaRConf 2023 keynotes along with @old_man_chester and @datapointier talking about the past and future of the Conf! #rstats
  22. If you need a gentle #rstats tutorial, my #ready4r course focuses on getting up to speed using #tidyverse - over 1700 users can't be wrong. Learn by doing. You work from Rstudio Cloud, which is free. 100% Free, sign up here: ready4r.netlify.app/mailing
  23. Just got tickets! Join me for R/Medicine Virtual Conference 2023! cvent.me/0XvrkZ?sms=2&cn=xoZKvg7RTmKEK3xWygx_uA #rmed2023
  24. Something I wish more #datascience tutorials would spend much more time on: Loading data, especially messy datasets. Along with folder navigation and projects. I just think that a lot of users get frustrated going further when they can't get their data in. #rstats
  25. New Year's Resolution I'm probably going to fail at: Keeping my Downloads folder empty by moving stuff to a better file location.
  26. Making a list of people I want to talk about #datascience Meetup #burnout with. The secret to my #positconf2023 talk is that it gives me a reason to hangout with awesome people.
  27. I have met so many great #datascience friends just by being excited about their work and promoting it. I guess that's because when I see someone has done something cool, I'm not jealous. I want more of the world to see it.
  28. Getting better at Mermaid diagrams in #quartopub. Sometimes it's just really helpful to see the big picture and how multiple file systems work together. Of course, I'm also breaking it down by interaction.
  29. I hate to say it, but every time I've done something I don't like as a favor for someone has gone badly. There's something to be said about only saying yes to things that align with your values.
  30. I'm going to give a talk at this year's #cascadiaRconf2023 about working with Web APIs and speaking JSON. The tools in #rstats are really great, and I want to make them approachable for those who have never thought it was for them. Hope to see you there!
  31. Learning way too much about POSIX versus Object Filesystems right now. This is the level of knowledge I never thought I'd need. But it's necessary to explain how Object Filesystems don't work like you'd expect them to, coming from a POSIX filesystem.
  32. Not feeling the preview version of TweetDeck, especially when all of my delegate account columns aren't available. That's half the reason I use it.
  33. Our next #rstats meetup is May 18. Want to get a great introduction to #quartopub? Curtis Kephart from @posit_pbc will show you how to build and publish a quarto blog to quarto.pub! @pdxrlang/1653238891003129858
  34. w00t! My #positconf2023 conf on keeping your Data Science Meetup Sustainable was accepted! I want to help DataSci Meetup organizers from burning out, and I'll highlight strategies I've learned first-hand and from others. You're not alone!
  35. I am currently watching Czech Country music TV and it is amaze. Especially the Czech version of Folsom Prison Blues. I'm told that Johnny Cash is super popular because they sang a lot of his songs in Primary School.
  36. You're not the boss of me, Apple Watch.
  37. Nooooooo! Zell’s Cafe was where my husband and me went on our first date 23 years ago. Really sad to hear it is closing.
  38. I’d much rather be the heart of something than the brains of something.
  39. I just heard the most horrifying dance remix of "Summer Lovin'". Yes, from Grease. My ears need a wash.
