    1. This is heartbreaking, and should not happen at a moment that should be the culmination and celebration of a PhD. I was convinced that one of committee members would not pass me during my defense. It colored my view of myself and the degree for years. @mlstantial/1501188706925002760

    It did motivate me when I was on students' committees to help them succeed and highlight their hard work. But there's still some scar tissue left from it.
