I think I’ve nailed kettle corn. 1:1:2 ratio (oil:sugar:popcorn). Heat oil and popcorn together in whirly-pop at medium high. Wait until popcorn starts popping before adding sugar. Then crank the w-p like crazy, dump in bowl, add salt, and enjoy.

The trick is not to heat the oil at high - the sugar will burn before the corn all pops. Use the cheap, thin, whirly-pop, not the fancy one.
