    1. I have been thinking about "4000 weeks" a lot lately. What is 4000 weeks? It is the average lifespan of a human being. It is also a really.interesting book that utilizes philosophy to give you a perspective about how to use your time. goodreads.com/en/book/show/54785515-four-thousand-weeks

I always have a rule when I eat at a sushi conveyor belt restaurant: When you've got a plate of sushi, focus on it, and not the conveyor belt. Otherwise, you'll be miserable.

The great thing about this book is it shows that philosophers have been thinking about time in the human life. The answer to using your 4000 weeks is not to use more productivity hacks, but to make hard choices about your time, and be more present in the current moment.

In other words, stop focusing so much on the future (the conveyor belt) and focus more on the here and now (your current sushi plate). Focusing so much on the future is part of what makes us miserable.

This is just the tip of the iceberg with this book, and it is a sobering read, especially because it is written by a former productivity guru. I think it is a needed antidote to our ambition focused culture, esp in academia.

I hope it forces you to re-evaluate what success means in your life. You are successful in the here and now, no matter what society says or the negative voices in your head.
