            If you have a figure that summarizes your research and workflow, use that to drive your talk. Again, work backwards and prune mercilessly.

          If you're looking to work with people on a project, say that. If you want people to give you feedback on a project, ask that. Having an action or an ask that you want people to take is a powerful driver of a lightning talk.

        Science is getting more and more collaborative. It doesn't need to be a lonely pursuit. Doing a lightning talk could be the thing that gets you to think outside the box.

      When you make your work accessible and understandable to an audience outside of your field. the gratitude of your presenters can be a powerful driver of collaboration.

    Thinking about a wider audience forces you into a rethinking cycle, which can be really helpful in forcing you to be innovative. And that is why I value beginners and the humility of teaching an introductory class.

      Of course, you need to find a space where you feel comfortable, with a minimal amount of know-it-all assholes and *_splainers. (Just know that underneath it, they are super insecure and they derive what little self-worth they have from this behavior.)

        But I digress. Lightning talks are also helpful in modularizing how you present your research and work. So if you have the opportunity to do a lightning talk for a friendly group, you should go for it.
