Really excited about @AmeliaMN's keynote about Speaking R and Dialects of R. I have been focusing on literacy in #ready4r and it's lovely to see her examples! #useR2020 @useR2020stl/1281290415396794369

@AmeliaMN Also, I learned so much from @Felienne's talk that she mentioned: rstudio.com/resources/rstudioconf-2019/explicit-direct-instruction-in-programming-education/

Woo! Shout out to @thecarpentries instructor training!

Really like the idea of pair programming through speaking and verbalizing code. Sounds like a great way to mentor students and up skills.
-
I'm totally nerding out about how @AmeliaMN is talking about ways to verbalize code. Loving this.
-
The pipe really helps to verbalize code in terms of making programming a linear process. I force students to make separate mutate statements for each thing they do for this reason.
-
Being aware of "silent characters" (characters we skip over when we verbalize code) and how they can impede beginners.
-
This talk also reminds me of the Yakov Smirnov Joke: "My car told me 'the door is ajar'. "What is the window then, a spoon?!???"
-
Language readability affects learning or beginners. Mentioning that #rstats is more readable than Python for beginners and showing examples. #useR2020
