    @TiffanyTimbers There are a lot of studies contrasting heterogeneous and homogeneous student groups. There is usually an advantage to heterogeneous groups in terms of learning outcomes: journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.3102/00346543057003293

      @TiffanyTimbers I’m guessing self selected groups are much more homogeneous, and that random student groupings are a way to introduce heterogeneity.
